Today the studnets started on their “one word” project. The idea of this project is for the students to choose a word that they want to define their school year. The students will then write that word down and decorate the paper it’s on. Once finished, the students will stand and tell us why they chose their word.

Happy Thursday! As we continue to learn and prepare to write and give speeches, we did an activity today called “Photo Story”. In this activity, students got to pick a photo of their choice and had to stand up and tell a brief story about it. This activity helps students learn to speak from memory when giving a speech.

Happy Thursday! Typically we’d be out doing community service, but today we decided to throw the students a curve ball and treat them to some DQ! These kids work hard all year long, both with us and at school. They have had to test and some still have tests to take, so we thought it would be nice to allow them to let their hair down and have a day to relax.

This month is all about the art of public speaking! Our goal is for our students to feel comfortable addressing a room of their peers and elders and have confidence in themselves and what they’re talking about. Each week we will break down the different parts of a speech which will culminate with all students being able to give a two minute speech.

This is how we spent our day! Learning more about jazz music from UT Martin professor, Dr. Oelrich. Huge thank you to Lake County Band for making this happening!

Today our team building excercise consisted of a jazz themed escape room! The students had to team up to search for clues and solve puzzles in order to escape! Huge thank you to Lori Nicole Forrest for taking the time to put this together.

Human Resource Analyst Natasha Johnson stopped by today to discuss what she does, gave the students insight into how to prepare for a job interview, and what employers typically look for in a good employee.

As we continue our Post Secondary month, we continue to discuss the workforce. Today the students had to pick a job they would like to do straight out of high school. Then they were tasked with telling us the qualifications and demands of these jobs.

What happens when it’s too wet for your field trip? We spend the day doing more research and making games out of our research! Our farm trip was postponed until Monday so we looked up different facts about farms and farming and made a trivia game out of it. The winner of the game got 5 seconds in the snack room to grab whatever they could, the kids loved it!
